Richard Keith McNace, 80, of Boone, died Friday, March 30, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, at Cornerstone Alliance Church at Sixth and Division streets in Boone, with the Rev. Jeff Lawson officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone with full military honors at the graveside by the Boone Veterans Council of Boone.
Richard Keith McNace was born Oct. 23, 1926, in Boone, to John and Edna (Allison) McNace. He grew up in Boone and graduated from Boone High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Maxine (Faye) Rogers April 22, 1951, in Boone. He was later divorced. He worked for Redeker Furniture, Montgomery Ward and Carter's TV, and then with traffic inventory at the Department of Transportation in Ames for more than 30 years, retiring in 1990.
He was a member of Primitive Methodist Church in Boone until it recently closed. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and traveling.
He is survived by two sons, James McNace and his wife, Burdean, of Boone, and Steve McNace, of Grimes; four daughters, Jeanne McNace, of Boone, Marcia Miller, of Boone, Joan Aspengren and her husband, Rick, of Boone, and Cheryl Womack and her husband, Kevin, of West Des Moines; 12 grandchildren, Travis McNace, of Boone, Andrea Miller, of Boone, Matthew Miller, of Boone, Jeramy McNace and his wife, Amy, of Boone, Jason McNace, of Boone, Ryan Aspengren, of Boone, Blake Aspengren, of Boone, Breann Aspengren, of Boone, Brandon McNace, of Grimes, Amber McNace, of Grimes, Cole Mallas, of West Des Moines, and Kaden Womack, of West Des Moines; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Arlene McNace, of Boone, Mildred Larrew, of Boone, and Belva Laidley and her husband, Dick, of Denver, Colo.; one brother, Bill McNace and his wife, Alice, of Boone; one sister-in-law, Rosemary McNace, of Boone; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother; stepmother, Florence (Conrad) McNace; one brother, Robert McNace; four stepsisters, Evyln Leff, Gladys Riley, Jane Dixon and Berniece Warwick; and two stepbrothers, George Conrad and Richard Conrad.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m., with family present from 6 to 8 p.m., today at the Schroeder-Walter Funeral Home, Fifth and Story streets in Boone. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. to the time of service Wednesday at the church.
Memorials may be made to the family to be used at its discretion.
