Aug. 30, 1944-March 27, 2007

Everett Morris Carter, 62, of Winona, Minn., died Tuesday, March 27, at home. A visitation was March 29, at Martin-Myhre Funeral Home in Winona. Visitation also will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 31, at Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home in Missouri Valley. Burial with military rites will be in Branson Cemetery in Loveland.

Everett Morris Carter was born Aug. 30, 1944, in Council Bluffs, to Homer and Grace (Campbell) Carter. He graduated from Missouri Valley High School in Missouri Valley in 1962. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1964.

He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1965-69. He was in the Army Security Agency, serving in both Turkey and Vietnam.

He married Patricia Chappell Sept. 6, 1964, in Ames. They moved to Winona, Minn., in 1974, where he was employed as a manufacturing engineer for Lake Center Industries, EMD and TRW. He also taught business management through Winona State University.

He and his wife, Patty, helped start the Winona Humane Society.

He is survived by his wife, Patty; his mother, Grace Carter, of Council Bluffs; one son, Edward (Kim) Carter, of Corinth, Miss; one daughter, Paula Carter, of Winona, Minn.; five grandchildren; one brother, Ken (Sue) Carter, of Council Bluffs; and one sister, Joyce (Chet) Lammert, of Council Bluffs.

He was preceded in death by his father and infant son, Thomas Wayne Carter.

He will be remembered by his family and friends as being honest and hard working, as well as a devoted, loving husband and father.
