Nov. 16, 1906-March 25, 2007

Mildred Gerbrach, 100, died Sunday, March 25, surrounded by her loving family at her granddaughter, Cathy Szyperski Thrash's home in Pembroke Pines, Fla. Visitation was Monday, March 26, at Fred Hunter's Funeral Home in Hollywood, Fla. A Mass of Christian burial was today at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Sunny Isles, Fla. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 29, in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Mildred Gerbrach was born Nov. 16, 1906, to William and Mattie Barr. She completed a doctorate degree. at Iowa State University and was a professor of chemistry. She and her husband, Joe, were residents of Ames and Golden Beach, Fla., and also had a home in Clear Lake.

She was passionate about her family and friends, boating and traveling the world. She was a former member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames and the Catholic Daughter's of America.

She is survived by one daughter, Jan (Richard) Szyperski; six grandchildren, Lynn (Greg) Short, Richard (Gayle) Szyperski, Cathy Szyperski (Jim) Thrash, Terry (Mark) Webb, Mary (Ron) Rummell, and Michael (Sarah) Szyperski; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and onesister, Florence Castonguay.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe in 1964, and one brother, Charlie Barr.

Stevens Memorial Chapel is assisting her family.
