TRI COUNTY TIMES, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, February 22, 2007.
Verna Frances Hermann went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 18, 2007. Services in celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2007, at the First Church of Christ, 310 NW Ash Drive in Ankeny, where she was a member. Interment will be in the Sheldahl Cemetery in Sheldahl.
Verna was born to Oley and Hilda (Fatland) Hanson on August 7, 1922, in Huxley, Iowa. She was a thirty-seven year resident of Slater, Iowa, and a member of Slater American Legion Auxiliary Post 260.
Survivors include one son, Jim (Mary Ann) Christianson of Huxley; three daughters, Deanna (Keith) Hedlund of Slater, Sally (Gerald) Griffin of Seneca, Missouri, and Patty (Phil) Kerns of Ankeny; two sisters, Delores Buttrey of Ames and Barbara (Herman) Kennedy of Kelley; and nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two husbands, Vernon Christianson and Marion Hermann; two infant sons, Lavern and Darwin Christianson; two brothers, Virgil and Richard; and four sisters, Stella, Edna, Harriet and Nancy.
The family received friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2007, at the Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First Church of Christ in Ankeny or Slater American Legion Auxiliary Post 260.
