THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, February 20, 2007.

Aug. 7, 1922-Feb. 18, 2007

Verna Frances Hermann went home to be with the Lord Sunday, Feb. 18. Services in celebration of her life will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, at First Church of Christ in Ankeny, where she was a member. Burial will be in Sheldahl Cemetery.

Verna Frances Hermann was born Aug. 7, 1922, in Huxley, to Oley and Hilda (Fatland) Hanson. She was a 37-year resident of Slater and a member of Slater American Legion Auxiliary Post 260.

She is survived by one son, Jim (Mary Ann) Christianson, of Huxley; three daughters, Deanna (Keith) Hedlund, of Slater, Sally (Gerald) Griffin, of Seneca, Mo., and Patty (Phil) Kerns, of Ankeny; two sisters, Delores Buttrey, of Ames, and Barbara (Herman) Kennedy, of Kelley; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Vernon Christianson and Marion Hermann; two infant sons, Lavern and Darwin Christianson; two brothers, Virgil and Richard; and four sisters, Stella, Edna, Harriet and Nancy.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, at Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Church of Christ in Ankeny or Slater American Legion Auxiliary Post 260.
