Grace Watts, 97, of Ames, died Sunday, Feb. 11, at Northcrest Community Health Care Center. Services are pending for Sunday, Feb. 18, with Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

Grace Rhoades Watts, 97, died peacefully Sunday, Feb. 11, at Northcrest Health Care Center in Ames, following complications from a broken hip. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, in the Green Room at Northcrest Retirement Center, 1801 20th St., in Ames.

Grace Rhoades Watts was born April 2, 1909, in Cleveland. She graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1930 and married Willard H. Watts in 1934. Feb. 24, 2007 would have been their 73rd anniversary. She and Bill lived in Cleveland and then nearly 40 years in Bethesda, Md. In 1988, they moved to Northcrest Retirement Community in Ames to be near their daughter, Win, and her husband.

She was active in many volunteer roles, including Camp Fire Girls, P.T.A., national officer of Alpha Chi Omega sorority and librarian for 12 years at Bethesda (Maryland) Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Willard, of Ames; two daughters, Winona (John) Stanford, of Ames, and Alice (Robert) Fryling, of Woodridge, Ill.; four grandchildren, Wendy Stanford (Jim) Wasilewski (sons David and Jonathan), of Barrington, Ill., Jim (Mary Ann) Stanford (son Andy), of East Lansing, Mich., Dorie Fryling (Steve) Fink (sons Nathan and Justin), of Iowa City, and Elisa Fryling (Eric) Stanford (daughter Eden), of Colorado Springs, Colo.

In lieu of flowers, she requested memorials to First United Methodist Church, 516 Kellogg Ave., Ames, IA, 50010 or InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, PO Box 7895, Madison, WI, 53707.

Stevens Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
