THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, February 10, 2007.

Sgt. Maj. Michael Charles Mettille, 44, of West St. Paul, Minn., died suddenly Thursday, Feb. 1, at Tallil Air Force Base (Camp Adder), Iraq, of a heart attack. He was serving as 1st Sgt. for Alpha Company, 134th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, at the Cathedral of St. Paul, 239 Selby Ave., St. Paul, Minn. Burial with military honors will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Mettille served honorably with the Minnesota Army National Guard for 26 years and also served as a Federal Technician with the Minnesota Army Reserve National Guard.

Survivors include his wife, Pamela, daughter, Mary, and son, Thomas, all of West St. Paul, Minn.; daughter Elizabeth and son M. Scott, both of Ames; parents, Charles and Anita Mettille, of Winona, Minn.; siblings, Kathryn (Dick) Todd, Laura (Tom) Dreas, Linda (Michael) Spiten, Lt. Cmdr. (Ret.) Frank (Chris) Mettille, Julie (Glen) Steberg, Nancy Mettille M.D. (Karl Hedin), and Connie Mettille; mother-in-law, Mary Christy; brothers-in-law, Thomas and Peter Christy; and sister-in-law, Paula Christy.

Washburn-McReavy Hillside Chapel in Minneapolis, Minn., is handling the arrangements.
