THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, February 2, 2007.

Loren Randolph Elliott died of cancer Wednesday, Jan. 31, at Israel Family Hospice House. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at Collegiate Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Lincoln Township Cemetery in Zearing.

Loren Randolph Elliott was born Oct. 23, 1921, in Warren Township, the son of Clyde and Bernice Elliott. He attended school in McCallsburg. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving with a heavy artillery unit in World War II. He received his basic training at Fort Des Moines before being sent to India. He was discharged Jan. 7, 1946, at Fort Sheridan, Ill. Upon his return from the service, he began working for the Story County Maintenance Department. He married Helen Langland April 22, 1950. They settled in Nevada until 1960 when they moved to Ames where he lived out the remainder of his life. He worked at the Veterinary Diagnostic Lab at ISU and later at the Ames Animal Disease Center from where he retired in 1981. After retirement, he and Helen stayed busy painting.

He was an active member of Collegiate Presbyterian Church in Ames. He was always a willing helper to all those he met. His pastime was dancing. He and his wife loved dancing and socializing with their friends at Lake Robbins and Stratford. His favorite dance was the waltz and his favorite song "The Waltz of the Angels." We know that he is now waltzing with the angels.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen; one daughter, Betty (Jerry) Kindhart, of Huxley; two granddaughters, Lisa Ann Terzo, of Phoenix, and Paula Goodrich, of Los Angeles; two great-grandchildren, Lauren Klein and Gerrit Klein, of Phoenix; one niece, Lynette Thompson, of Ankeny; and one nephew, Richard Thompson, of Colorado.

He will be missed by all those who knew him. He genuinely liked doing things for others.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, at Adams Funeral Home.

Memorials may be sent to 1402 Meadowlane, Ames, IA 50010.
