AMES - Leona Hohenberger of Ames, formerly of Grundy Center, died Tuesday, January 30th at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Leona was born July 27, 1927 in Ackley, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Justena (Steinmeyer) Meyer. She attended Butler County Schools and graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1947. After high school she worked at the Grundy Telephone Office for a number of years. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Hohenberger on June 20, 1950 in Grundy Center. Leona was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center and attended the Nevada Baptist Church in recent years.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth; one daughter, Laura Lillard and husband Steve of Nevada and one granddaughter, Justena Fletchall and husband Steven of Ames.

Services will be held Saturday, February 3 at 10:30 AM at the Nevada Baptist Church with burial at 1:30 PM at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Visitation will be 7:00 to 8:30 PM Friday, February 2nd at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Nevada Baptist Church.

The Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
