Sarah Katherine Croghan, 84, of Nevada, died Saturday, Jan. 6, at Story County Long Term Care in Nevada. Her body has been cremated. Memorial services will be at a later date.

Katherine Croghan was born March 27, 1922, in Maysville, Mo., to Fayette and Virginia (Connett) Utz. She studied to be a medical technician at the Kansas City General Hospital. Katherine served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She then received a bachelor's degree from Washington University. She married Dr. Donald L. Croghan Feb. 23, 1952, in St. Joseph, Mo. She was a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Nevada, PEO, and also served on the Nevada Library Board and Story County Board of Health. She enjoyed reading, playing bridge, traveling, socializing and hooking rugs.

She is survived by one daughter, Dr. Laura Calderwood, of Cedar Falls; one son, Bill (Chris) Croghan, of Mount Vernon; two grandchildren, Anna and Connett Croghan; one sister, Marian Barger, of Denison, Texas; and one sister-in-law, Virginia Croghan, of Savannah, Ga.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Aug. 11, 2006; and one sister, Virginia Lee Ackermann.

Memorials may be directed to Dr. Laura Calderwood, 3407 Clearview Drive, Cedar Falls, IA, 50613.
