THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, January 6, 2007.

Hubert M. Church, 83, of Nevada, died Thursday, Jan. 4, at Story County Medical Center in Nevada.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, at Ankeny Cornerstone Baptist Church. Visitation will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, at the church.

Burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, in St. Joseph Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Joseph, Mo.

Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada is in charge of arrangements.

Hubert M. Church, 83, of Nevada, died Thursday, Jan. 4, at Story County Medical Center in Nevada. Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 8, at Ankeny Cornerstone Baptist Church. Burial with military honors was today at the St. Joseph Memorial Park in St. Joseph, Mo.

Hubert M. Church was born Feb. 18, 1923, in Judsonia, Ark., the son of Noah and Eva Ali (Childress) Church. He married Ellen Wagenfield Sept. 12, 1948, in St. Joseph, Mo. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and flew as co-pilot in a B-24. He graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in engineering. He worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation in road design for 18 years before retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Ankeny Cornerstone Baptist Church, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Iowa Engineering Society. He was an avid reader who enjoyed economics, gardening and his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen, of Nevada; two sons, David Church and Donald Church, both of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Margaret Oard, of Saucier, Miss., and Martha Church, of Nevada; five grandchildren; one brother, Ralph E. Church of Liberty, Mo.; and one sister, Clytice Church Duzan of Lowry City, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter and one brother-in-law.

Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
