Stuart Penney, 85, of Ames, died Saturday, Nov. 18. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville, with the Rev. Fr. John Moser officiating. Burial will be in Visitation Catholic Church Cemetery, Stacyville.

Stuart Penney was born July 18, 1921, in Little Cedar, to Hubert and Gladys (Makepeace) Penney. He was a graduate of Little Cedar Consolidated School in 1937. He was in the U.S. Navy, serving as an airman machinist mate 1st Class during World War II. He married Rosemary Kreber March 12, 1945, in Austin, Minn. He farmed near Stacyville and was a meat cutter for Hormel. He moved to Ames in 1997.

He was a member of Visitation Catholic Church, Hale Penney Fuller American Legion Post 569 for 61 years, and member of Hormel Retirees. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren, playing cribbage, euchre and checkers, and hunting and fishing. He had a great sense of humor.

He is survived by his children, Jim Penney (Heather), of Ames, Mary Jo Pfeifer Wulf (Larry), of State Center, Deb Penney (John Morrow), of Ames, Elayne Penney-Timmons (Steve), of Des Moines, Rita Martens (Fredrick), of DeSoto, Ann Penney-Decker (Dale), of Dubuque, and Donna Boerjan (Paul), of St. Ansgar; one brother, Howard Penney (Minnie), of Osage; 19 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary in 2001; one son, John Penney; infant daughter, Theresa Penney; and one sister, Dorothy Drum.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with scripture service at 5 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday prior to the service at Visitation Catholic Church.

Memorials may be made to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Visitation Catholic Church or the American Juvenile Diabetes Association.

Adams Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
