THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, November 15, 2006.

Donald D. Dooley, 79, died Monday, Nov. 13, at Iowa Health Hospice, Taylor House. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at Iles Funeral Homes-Grandview Park Chapel in Des Moines where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial of the cremated remains will be at a later date in Cedar Cemetery in Rinard.

Donald D. Dooley was born and raised in Rinard. He graduated from Rinard High School and completed two years at Iowa State University before beginning his career as a grain elevator manager. He worked for various communities including Marathon, Zearing and Colo before retiring from the Alburnett elevator.

He moved to Des Moines in 1988 and was very involved in the Eastside Senior Citizens Center. He was a member of the Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, Elks Club and Moose Club and volunteered for the Marathon Fire Department. He enjoyed travel and playing cards, especially participating in the cribbage tournaments at the Iowa State Fair.

He is survived by two sons, Dell (Joan) Dooley, of Bondurant, and Doug (Ginny) Dooley, of Rosemount, Minn.; one daughter, Debra Christiansen, of Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren; and his special friend, Vivian Way.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Christiansen Dooley, in 1987.

Memorial contributions may be made to Blank Children's Hospital at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.
