Ames Times, Thursday, April 7, 1904
Louisa Saddlemire Haverly was born June 1st, 1817 in Albany County, New York and died at the home of her daughter Mrs. W. A. Shreeve, Denver, Colorado, March 30th, 1904, at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 30 days. She married Charles Haverly in 1838. To them were born thirteen children, one of which having died in infancy, the remaining twelve lived to maturity, 10 of whom are living at this time, six of whom were present at the funeral, the absent four being too far distant to attend the obsequies of their blessed departed mother. She was a woman of great courage, physique, and excellent motherly qualities of the finest type. She united with the ME church in her young girlhood and lived an exemplary life all along her pilgrimage and up to its close. She died as she lived, realizing the presence of Him who said, " I am the way, the truth and the life," and no doubt beheld the presence of angels ever bright and fair waiting to escort her to the realms of the blest, where the lights never grow dim in that beautiful land of rest.
Funeral service was conducted at the residence of her son, Mr C. E. Haverly, 210 Boone St., this city, Sunday April 3, 1904 by the Rev. Andrew M Shea, after which the remains were laid to rest beside those of her husband in the Ames Cemetery. Those from away who were present were Mrs. W.A. Shreeve and daughter Gladys of Denver, Mrs Josephine Lyon of Marengo, Sidney Haverly of Des Moines, Seldon Haverly of Dakota, D. M. Haverly of Omaha and Mr. and Mrs Walter Spencer of Marathon.
