May 11, 1913 - Nov. 6, 2006

Hazel T. Phillips, 93, of Story City, passed away Monday, Nov. 6, at Bethany Manor. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial will follow in the Story City Municipal Cemetery.

Phillips was born May 11, 1913, in McCallsburg, to O.C. and Carrie (Malmin) Hougen. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg. Hazel graduated from McCallsburg High, attended the University of Iowa, and graduated from Capitol City Commercial College in Des Moines. Hazel taught school at the country school in Sheldahl before meeting and marrying Harold C. Phillips.

Phillips worked at Lowry's Dry Goods Story and Wierson Furniture Story, and also completed 21 years at Bourne's Electronics. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and a member of the Sons of Norway. Phillips enjoyed reading and traveling throughout the United States, as well as internationally.

She is survived by her children, Gretchen F. Ravenscroft, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Ann C. Harlan, of Apache Junction, Ariz., Jean M. Jones, of Johnston, John C. Phillips, of Humboldt, and Robert K. Phillips, of Humboldt. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Her parents, five brothers, two sisters, and her husband, Harold, preceded Phillips in death.

Visitation will be one hour prior the service.

A memorial has been established in her name.

Soderstrum Funeral Homes in Story City is handling the arrangements.
