Irma Naomi Iverson

Irma Naomi Iverson passed away on October 24, 2006 at Taylor House Hospice. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 27 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 3120 East 24th St. Irma, the only child of Noel and Georgia (Sexauer) Bates, was born in Des Moines on April 19, 1931. She graduated from East High School in 1949.

Irma passed her love for music on to many individuals through piano and accordion lessons which she taught for 58 years. She willingly shared her musical talents with church, friends and community. She served as a judge for the Iowa State Fair piano and accordion contests. Irma was an avid follower of politics and a staunch supporter of the Democratic Party. She was a member of the East High School Alumni Association.

Irma is survived by cousins, Harley Griffieon of Decatur, Craig (LaVon) Griffieon of Ankeny, and Joan (Jerry) Long of Maxwell. Irma's life has touched many. Her large circle of friends has been blessed to have enjoyed her as a part of our lives. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, October 26 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. in Des Moines. Internment will be at Lincoln Cemetery, near Alleman, where Irma will be laid to rest with her parents, grandparents and great-parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her name to St. Mark's Episcopal Church or the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
