Robert Daniel Murphy

Robert Daniel Murphy, 52, died on Sunday, October 1, of cancer. A funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, at Ankeny Funeral Home (1510 W. First St., Ankeny). Visitation will be 90 minutes prior to the service.

Bob was born in Des Moines and grew up near Polk City. He graduated from North Polk Community Schools and attended Iowa State University. Bob lived on Grand Cayman Island for the last 25 years, where he was employed by AL Thompson.

He treasured time with his son Daniel, and they shared a love of sports. Bob enjoyed Notre Dame football, the Iowa State Fair, spending time with friends, and reading.

Bob is survived by his son Daniel Murphy, step-children Katharine Holmes and Larry Thompson, and former wife Berna Thompson Cummins, all of Grand Cayman Island; his siblings Connie (Phil) Pratt of Colorado Springs, CO; Susan (LC) Wilgenbusch of Victor, IA; Michael (Maureen) Murphy of Des Moines; and Kathy (Gary) Sevcik of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Daniel B. and Evelyn C. Murphy.
