Ruth Oxley
Ruth Oxley, formerly of Maxwell and Ankeny, died on Wednesday, October 4, 2006, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Burial was in the Peoria Cemetery near Maxwell. Memorial contributions may be made to the Peoria Cemetery Association.
Ruth Dalton was born August 27, 1918, in Anderson, Missouri, to John H. and Sarah Elizabeth (Hutchison) Dalton. She graduated from Anderson High School in 1936. On January 14, 1942, she married John Ransom Oxley, who preceded her in death on October 28, 2005.
Early in their marriage, Ruth worked at Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Des Moines and at the Ordinance Plant in Ankeny. After moving to the Oxley family farm near Maxwell, she became a busy farm wife, running errands for the family farm operation and "cooking for men," as she called it. She kept a lovely home, attended countless school programs and sporting events in which her nieces, great-nephew and great niece participated, and still found time to be very active in community and church organizations.
She was the organist and a trustee at Peoria United Methodist Church for many years. She was active in United Methodist Women, Peoria Cemetery Association, Order of the Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, and Maxwell Community Historical Society. She was also a member of First United Methodist Church in Ankeny.
Ruth and John loved to travel and they took many trips with friends and family to interesting locations. Although they never had children of their own, she and John were much beloved by their nieces, nephews and countless children of family friends.
Ruth had a strong faith in God and great love for her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Phyllis Trenary and Mary Lou Dotson; five brothers, William "Junior," James, Albert, Abraham and Tom; four nephews and one niece.
Survivors include one sister, Helen Savage of Anderson, MO; three brothers, Robert E. Dalton (Patty), of Kansas City, MO, Roy L. Dalton (Betty), of Joplin, MO, and Buck R. Dalton (Myrtle) of Anderson, MO; 15 nephews and nieces; 42 grandnephews/nieces and 27 great-grandnephews/nieces.
Also left to mourn her passing are three sisters-in-law, Corinne Faelz of Ames, IA, Maxine (LeRoy) Koder of Des Moines, IA, Alyce (Jack) Moore of Nevada, IA; two nephews, John C. Oxley of Centennial, CO, Steven Faelz of Castro Valley, CA; 2 nieces: Marcia Moore of Des Moines, IA, Mary Lou (Gary) Flack of Nevada, IA; 3 great-nephews: John C. Oxley, Jr. of Cheyenne, WY, Drew Faelz of Rocklin, CA, Ryan Flack of Nevada, IA; a great niece: Morgan Flack of Nevada, IA; and a great-great nephew, Benjamin Faelz of Rocklin, CA.
