THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, October 6, 2006.

Samuel Davis Doty, 74, of Runnells, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Funeral services were held Sept. 25 at the Monroe United Methodist Church. Burial was at Lowman Cemetery in Runnells.

Samuel Davis Doty was born April 17, 1932, in Swan, the son of Walter and H. Lucinda (Davisson) Doty. He graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1949. On Dec. 29, 1951, Sam was united in marriage with Darlene West in Polk County. Sam served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Once Sam returned from the war, he attended Iowa State University. After attending college, Sam went on to work at Tuttle's Gas and Appliance in Ames for 27 years. Sam also served in various ministries. He was a car enthusiast and a member of the Tall Corn Auto Club. Sam and Darlene were longtime residents of Ames and also lived in Texas for a short time before moving to Runnells upon their retirement.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Darlene, of Runnells; four children, Lucinda Doty, of Ames, Ginger McDaniel, of Runnells, Samuel (Jeff) Doty and his wife Carry, of Monroe, and Gwendolyn Vriezelaar and her husband Hugh, of Monroe; 12 grandchildren, Matthew, Timothy, Brandon, Sarah, Cody, Tyler, Ben, Elizabeth, Scott, Adrian (Steve), Adam (Tiffany) and Audrey; one great-grandson, Tyler; three sisters, Alice Walker, Dakota Hansen and Nellie Howe; three brothers, Louis Doty, Walter Doty and Delbert Doty; and many nieces and nephews.

His parents; two sisters, Mary and June; and two brothers, Bill and Steve, preceded Sam in death.

Memorials may be given to Runnells Emergency Unit and online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburn
