Richard "Dick" Rhoades, 77, of Boone, died Thursday, Oct. 5, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. His body has been cremated, and memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall streets in Boone.
Dick Rhoades was born June 15, 1929, in rural Dawson, the son of Emmett and Mabel (Chapman) Rhoades. Dick married Louise Kent on March 29, 1958, in Guthrie Center. For 24 years he was employed at Iowa State University in the Sanitation Department, retiring in 1991.
Dick is survived by his wife, Louise, of Boone; a son, Stacey Rhoades and wife Pam, of Boone; five daughters, Rita Myers and husband Bryan of West Des Moines, Anna Hancox, of League City, Texas, Mary Rhoades and fiancé Brian McDevitt, of Boone, Sandra 'Sas' Martin, of Boone, and Beverly Luedloff and husband Jeff, of Shakopee, Minn.; four sisters; and 13 grandchildren.
His parents and an infant brother preceded him in death.
Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at Schroeder Memorial Chapel, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.
