Helen "Dorothy" Bartlett, 96, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Rolling Green Village Nursing Home in Nevada. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at Bethel United Methodist Church, 503 E. South St., in Manly, with the Rev. Robert Cumings officiating. Burial will be in Manly Cemetery.

Helen Dorothy Bartlett was born Dec. 11, 1909, in Clear Lake, the daughter of Merle and Helen (Brose) Rogers. She attended Clear Lake Public Schools and graduated from Mason City High School in 1926. She graduated from Mason City Junior College and Iowa State Teachers College. Her first teaching job was in Marble Rock. She moved to Manly in 1932, where she taught high school history and English until 1945. She married Maynard Bartlett Jan. 1, 1942, in San Diego; to this union, a daughter was born. She returned to teaching in the Manly Public Schools in 1951 and continued until she retired in 1972.

She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, Scrabble and bird watching. Her greatest love was spending time with family and friends. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Friendship Circle, Manly Study Club, Shell Rock Dinner Club and Manly Public Library Board of Trustees, where she served as the treasurer.

She is survived by one daughter, Elaine (Robert) Heiberger, of Ames; three grandchildren, Kristine Heiberger, of Chicago, Rob Heiberger, of Chicago, and Kevin Heiberger, of Ames; one sister, Phyllis Sweet, of Sarasota, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Julia Bartlett, of Pleasant Hill; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Helen Rogers; her husband, Maynard Bartlett; and two brothers, Leslie and Donald Rogers.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight at Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., in Manly.

Memorials may be directed to Dorothy Bartlett Memorial Fund.
