Anna B. Gardner, 48, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Hospice Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Memorial services will be held at a later date.Anna was born Aug. 18, 1958, in Eugene, Ore., the daughter of Dr. J H and Mary Gardner. She moved to Iowa 40 years ago and with her husband David Marlow, lived the last 22 years in the Pilot Mound area.
Anna worked part time at Iowa State University helping students with their electronic portfolios in the horticulture department and food science department. She was a freelance botanical and medical illustrator and designed Web pages. She also was an artist who exhibited at the Smithsonian Craft Show in Washington, D.C., a musician and an avid organic gardener. She was a full-time mother to her son, Gavin, and the pillar of her family.
She is survived by her husband, David; one son, Gavin Gardner Marlow, of Iowa City; her father, Dr. J H Gardner, of Davenport; her mother, Mary Gardner, of Boone; one sister, Sarah Gardner (Tom Frolick), of Des Moines; one brother, Hugh Gardner, of Kansas City, Kan.; one niece, Rivkah Gardner-Frolick; sisters-in-law, Sandra Smith, of Burt, and Barb Robinson (Richard), of Dow City and their families; and step sister and brothers, Khristine Rogers, Peter Svebakken and Hans Svebakken and their families.
She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Kay Gardner.
Memorial contributions may be made to Planned Parenthood of Iowa, the Iowa Native Plant Society or Hospice of Central Iowa.
Dunn's Funeral Home of Des Moines is in charge of arrangements.
