Velda M. Noring, 84, of Indianola, passed away Friday, August 18, 2006, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, from pulmonary fibrosis.

She was born October 5, 1921, to Tighlman and Ethel (Torry) Shickell in Collins, Iowa.

She graduated from Collins High School with the Class of 1939.

On June 21, 1941, Velda was united in marriage to Verne M. Noring at her parents' home near Collins. To this union two sons were born, Verlyn and Vaughn. She helped her husband on the farm and was a homemaker until their retirement in 1984. Following their retirement, they moved to Indianola, Iowa, where Velda worked as a hostess at Hardees for 18 years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Colo, Iowa, and a member of the Collins United Methodist Church.

Velda is survived by her sons, Verlyn (Louise) of Indianola, Iowa and Vaughn (Rowena) of Urbandale, Iowa; two grandchildren, Katie (Wes) Nyberg of Ankeny, Iowa, and Timothy (Cassidy) Noring of West Des Moines, Iowa.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Verne, two brothers Rev. Virgil Shickell and Donald Shickell and two sisters Gladoline Streeter and Genevieve Geisler.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at Collins United Methodist Church in Collins. Velda will be buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Collins. Fredregill Funeral Home in Collins handled arrangements.
