THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, August 16, 2006.

Gloria L. Mutchmor, 79, of Ames, died Friday, Aug. 11, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. In accordance with Gloria's wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. Her family and friends will gather at a later time in remembrance of her life.

She was born May 3, 1927, in St. Paul, Minn., to Louis C. and Beth M. (LaMont) Peterson. She graduated from Monroe High School in St. Paul in 1944. She married Donald Gabrielson in 1948 and, prior to the dissolution of this marriage, a daughter, Donita Beth was born. She then attended and graduated from Globe Business College in St. Paul. For several years, she was employed as the administrative secretary of the Minnesota State Entomologists Office on the agricultural campus of the University of Minnesota. There she met John Mutchmor (an entomology graduate student), and the two were married in Regina, Saskatchewan, in 1955. They returned to the University of Minnesota several years later, where he completed his doctorate degree in entomology. They returned to Canada until moving to Ames in 1962, when he accepted a position in the entomology department at Iowa State University. Their daughter, Anne E. Mutchmor, was born in 1964.

Although primarily a homemaker, Gloria managed the Octagon Art Shop for several years when it was housed on Main Street. She later worked for H & R Block in Nevada, preparing income tax returns. She had many talents, which she expressed in a variety of activities throughout her life. She supported her daughter's love of animals by helping raise horses and dogs for show and sale. Through the years, she studied the genealogy of the Peterson, LaMont and Mutchmor families and documented the families' history in photo albums and scrapbooks. In her later years, she enjoyed traveling with the family, including her daughter's Russian in-laws, throughout the United States and Canada, often in the family RV.

She is survived by her husband, John Mutchmor, of Ames; two daughters, Donita Beth (Floyd) Woods, of Marshalltown, and Anne (Andrei) Bourdine, of Brookline, Mass.; four grandsons, Marc, James and Shawn, of the Marshalltown area, and Gordon Woods, of Manly; two granddaughters, Aleksandra and Darya Bourdine, of Brookline, Mass.; 11 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Claire (Shirley) Wagner, of Woodbury, Minn., and Donald (Dee) Peterson, of Gilbert, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
