Eunice Ustrud Vilmont, age 89, died August 10 with her daughters at her side at Green Hills Retirement Community where she had been residing since 1992. She was a resident of Ames since 1939.

Vilmont was born March 28, 1917, in Brookings, S.D., the daughter of Isaac B. and Clara T. Johnson. Her early education was in the Brookings Public Schools. After graduating from South Dakota State University in 1938, she taught in the Langford, S.D., Public Schools. On Aug. 30, 1939, she married Herbert Ustrud at First Lutheran Church in Brookings. After his death in 1965, she taught music at Welch Junior High School in Ames and later was employed as an administrative assistant in the music department at Iowa State University until her retirement in 1983.

On April 12, 1992, she married Homer Vilmont, of Ames. She was an active member and officer in her Church Women's organizations, Church Women United and was a lifetime member of the American Association of University Women. She was a charter member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church and its choir director for 25 years.

Vilmont is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, her husbands, Herbert and Homer, and Homer's son, Richard. She is survived by immediate family; daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Michael Bruckdorfer, of Washington, Mo., Carol and George Watson, of St. Paul, Minn., and Cindy Ustrud and Dennis Rollins, of Lakeport, Calif.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Survivor's also include Homer's family; daughter Vonnie Secketa, of Oak Harbor, Wash., and son Jule Vilmont and his wife Nancy Carrington, of Greeley, Colo., daughter-in-law, Kathy Vilmont Johnson, of Ames, and Homer's seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Visitation will resume from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 15, at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Ames, followed by her funeral service at 2 p.m., officiated by Pastor Chris Olkewicz. Burial will follow at the Iowa State University Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Andrews Lutheran Church or the Herbert O. Ustrud Civil Engineering scholarship fund, ISU Foundation.
