THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, May 8, 1884, page 8, column 2. “Mrs. Mary Thompson, living one mile east of town, last evening, received the sad intelligence that her father, William Glass of Pt. Byron, Ill., was dead. The telegram was sent to “Mrs. Larry Thompson” causing a delay of 24 hours in finding the right person. By looking over the files in this office, we discovered that Mrs. R. R. Thompson’s family name was Glass. It was but a few minutes after, until the telegram was in the hands of Mrs. Thompson, who started immediately, on the 5:18 train for Pt. Byron.”
