June 10, 1938-July 26, 2006
D. Thomas Noble, 68, of Ames, died peacefully with his family at his side Wednesday, July 26, at the Israel Family Hospice House. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 29, at First Evangelical Free Church in Ames.

He was born on June 10, 1938, in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from Westerville High School and Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio. He completed his master's degree at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

He married Sally Groenenboom in the Iowa State University Gardens on July 5, 1990.

Tom Noble had a long and distinguished career with North American Rockwell, Sperry Flight Systems, Battelle Memorial Institute, Northwestern University, Iowa State University, Ames Laboratory USDE, and most recently Louisiana Tech University, from which he retired.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clark Noble and infant daughter, Amy Elizabeth. He is survived by his wife, Sally Noble; his mother, Lois Noble; Tom and Sally's children, Scott (Misty) Noble, Susan (Bob) Lincoln, Shelley (Rich) Lewis, Dean (Jodi) Bridges, Angela (Lynn) McDermott; 12 grandchildren; a sister, Jean Litzinger; brothers-in-law, Scott (Amy) Groenenboom and Mark Groenenboom; mother- and father-in-law, Les and Irma Groenenboom; and many nieces and nephews.

Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames is assisting the family.

A memorial fund has been established in Tom's name and contributions may be directed to his family.

Tom was an amazing husband, father and grandfather. We will forever cherish his wit, wisdom and stories.
