THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, July 22, 2006.

Orlo Robert (Bob) Best, 85, of Ames, died Friday, July 21, 2006 at Riverside Manor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m.Wednesday at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 30th Street and Hoover Ave., in Ames with Father Ivan Nienhaus presiding. Burial will follow in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Best was born to Orlo and Bess Best in Ames on Aug. 16, 1920. He was a lifelong resident of Ames. He achieved the rank of Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Bob was an avid Ames High School and ISU fan. He co-owned Best Electric Co. with his parents and worked at the Iowa Department of Transportation. After retirement, in 1986, Bob worked for Wilson Olds Cadillac, FEMA and Hy-Vee. He worked football games in the ISU press box for over 30 years. He enjoyed his family, sports and a good life.

He married Anna Marie McMahon on Feb. 19, 1946. He was a member of the Elks, Moose Lodge, American Legion, Iowa Softball Hall of Fame and the Ames Bowling Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Marie Best; children, Bob (Kathy), Bill (Peggy), Barry (Darla), Barb (Gary) Banks, Beverly and Brian, all of Ames; Ben of Sarasota, Fla., and Bridget (Bud) Wilkinson of Central Point, Ore.; 17 grandchildren, Jill, Ann, Erin and Katie; Ali and Beau; Meagan and Travis; Brendan and Nicole; Travis, Samantha and Sage; Jacob and Jordan; Sierra and Trinity; and six great grandchildren.

A visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 25 at Stevens Memorial Chapel, 607 28th St., Ames.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Israel Family Hospice House or St. Cecilia Building Fund.
