Dr. Merton A Johnson

Cherished father, brother, husband and physician Dr. Merton A Johnson, age 89, passed away peacefully June 27, 2006 in Peoria, AZ. He was preceded in death by beloved wife Dr. Rebecca Johnson and brother, Emmett. He is survived by brother Oliver Johnson and brother-in-law Reed Landis of Sun City, AZ; daughters Dr. Lynne C (Kate) Olson of Andover, Anne Johnson of Waconia, Sarah Johnson of Belews Creek, NC, Rebekah (BJ) Johnson of New York City; grandson and family Jon, Jennifer and Ruth Olson of Denver; and special family friend Bunny Levholik (he called his fifth daughter).

Dr. Johnson was born in Fergus Falls, MN and attended St Olaf College. He received his MD from Loyola University in Chicago. He served in the Army during WWII, was discharged from active duty in 1946 and retired from the active reserve as a Major in 1952. Dr. Johnson was a family physician in Stordon, MN, many years in Nevada, IA, and retired as an anesthesiologist from St. John's Hospital in St Paul, MN.

Dr. Johnson was an award winning photographer, avid gardener, birder and a skilled craftsman. He and his wife Becky were active in establishing the Sun City, AZ Chamber Music Society. He leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion and beauty. He will be deeply missed by the many whose lives he touched.

A service was held in Peoria, Arizona on July 1, 2006.
