THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Sunday, July 2, 2006.

Carroll M. White, 87, of Colo, died Wednesday, June 28, 2006.

Carroll was born on Oct. 5, 1918, at the family home three miles south of Colo, the son of Herbert and Grace Faye (Hemping) White.

He graduated from Colo High School in 1936. After attending Frye Aviation School in Omaha, he worked for Pacific Gas Heating and Air Conditioning and North American Aviation in California.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945, where he was the supervisor of the Hydraulics Department of the Naval Air Technical Training Center in Norman, Okla.

In November 1945, he began his career with Fareway Stores Inc. in Ames. He helped open the store in Washington, Iowa, and then served as manager of stores in Marshalltown, Decorah and Oskaloosa before retiring in 1981.

He married Margaret Wilson, of Colo, March 31, 1941, in Albany, Mo. After retirement, they enjoyed wintering in Winter Haven, Fla. Carroll and Margaret returned to Colo in June of 1995.
Carroll was a member of the Colo United Methodist Church, Scottish Rite of the Masonic Lodge, El Kahir Shrine and the American Legion. He enjoyed being with his family, golfing, fishing, dancing, reading and playing cards.

He is survived by Margaret, his wife of 65 years; three children, Ronald White, of Ankeny, Carolyn Anderson, of Warren, Ohio, and Kathy White of Omaha, Neb.;
four grandchildren, Julie Ask, of San Francisco, Eric Ask, of Cleveland, T.J. White, of Lake Oswego, Ore., and Michael White of Camby, Ore; and a brother, Robert White, of Ames.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 2, at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth St. in Nevada. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 3, at United Methodist Church of Colo. Burial will follow in the Colo Cemetery.
