TRI COUNTY TIMES, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, June 15, 2006.

Mary Ellen Hill, 85, of Huxley, died Thursday, June 8, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Funeral services were held Monday, June 12, at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church in Huxley with Rev. Tom Hilger officiating. Burial was at Fjeldberg Cemetery.

Mary Ellen was born January 15, 1921 in Dallas County to Clarence and Bertha (Sheets) Coffin. She lived in Huxley since 1939 and was a resident of Ballard Creek for two years. She graduated from Alleman High School. She worked at Collegiate Manufacturing and Eldridge Seed Corn and Bournes. She retired in 1970.

Mary Ellen married Marion S. Hill on July 15, 1939. She was an avid reader, played cards and enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a fan of Iowa basketball.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Shaeffer (Tom) of Huxley; a son, Larry Hill (Betty) of Des Moines; a sister, Maxine Fischer of Des Moines; two brothers, Paul Coffin of Des Moines and Laddie Coffin of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Todd Hill of Berwick; Randy Shaeffer (Lucy) of Huxley; Sheryl Moore (Jim) of Montgomery, TX; Suzanne Tyson (Ty'bo) of The Wooodlands, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on May 8, 1985; two brothers, Harold and Burton Coffin; and granddaughter, Jody Lynn Hill.

Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater was entrusted with arrangements.
