March 15, 1923-June 6, 2006
Harold E. Tjelmeland, 83, of rural Story County, died of a sudden heart attack Tuesday, June 6, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 10, at Salem Luthern Church in Roland. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, June 9, at Salem Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Roland. Family will be present after 6 p.m.

Harold was born March 15, 1923, in Hardin County to Ward and Gladys (Osmundson) Tjelmeland. He was a 1943 graduate of Milford High School. He married Helen Vickre Aug. 5, 1945, at Zion Lutheran Church. He had just completed his 62nd year of planting his crops this year.

He was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church, serving on the ushering committee for many years as well as various other positions within the church.

One of his interests and prime concerns was family. He appreciated all opportunities to be with family members.

He is survived by his wife, Helen of rural Story City; one daughter, Darla Drees of Story City; three grandchildren, Dustin Andrew Drees, Emma Mae Drees and Mary Jane Camp; two sisters, Lola Mae Anderson of Nevada and Delores Campbell of Gilbert, Ariz.; and five brothers, Leo Tjelmeland of Nevada, Gary Tjelmeland of Story City, Wayne Tjelmeland of Bloomington, Ill., Joel Tjelmeland of Springfield, Ill., and Gordon Tjelmeland of Clive. He was a beloved brother, brother-in-law and uncle to his extended family who will miss him terribly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Wally Tjelmeland and Keith Tjelmeland.
