Frank Searles Hibbard, 84, formerly of 1411 Prairie Ave., Boone, died Sunday, June 4, peacefully at home at Silvercrest Assisted Living Center in Ames. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 9, at First Presbyterian Church in Boone with Richard Harken officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Park Cemetery in Chicago.He was born Sept. 27, 1921, in Chicago, the son of Rolland and Isabel (Searles) Hibbard, Sr.
He was the beloved husband of the late Carol Swanson (1986) and the late Arlene Stensen Eggland (2001).
He was a former resident of Chicago, Flossmoor, Ill., the Shetland Islands, Scotland, Boone and Ames. He was a veteran of World War II, where he flew gliders and fixed wing aircraft. He later went on to a career flying helicopters for the Illinois Army National Guard until he retired in 1981.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Colby (Grace) Hibbard and Robert (Genevieve) Hibbard.
Survivors include two nieces, Karen (Curtis) Coyle and Lois Church Page; one nephew, Robert (Christine) Hibbard; many great-nieces and great-nephews; one stepson, Steve Eggland; two stepdaughters, Lynne (Dwight) Oshiem and Kathleen (Carl) Christensen; and many step-grandchildren.
The body was cremated.
There will be no visitation.
Stark-Welin Funeral Directors in Boone is in charge of arrangements.
