Wilda Lee Hite, 74, of Iowa City, died Monday, June 5, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following a brief illness. The funeral service will be Thursday, June 8, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside with Father Rich Adam officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton.

Wilda was born July 17, 1931, in Britt, to Herbert and Mildred Lee. She married to Frederick L. Hite June 13, 1954, in Britt. She received a teaching certificate from the University of Iowa. She taught elementary school for many years and later became a records clerk for the Ames Police Department. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, University Women and the Red Hat Ladies. She enjoyed family, traveling, fishing, camping and Hawkeye football. She never met a stranger and her many friendships played a significant role in her happiness.

She is survived by three children and their spouses, Randall and Christy Hite of Orange, Calif., Cathy and John Gent of Wellman and Kendall and Jess Ann Hite of Santa Ana, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Daniel, Matthew and Ryan Gent, and Christine, Nicole, Alexander and Kellie Hite; one sister, Lola and husband Don Eisenman of Britt; and one brother-in-law, John and his wife Pat Kinnane of Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frederick; and her twin brother William Dean.

A visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. The family will be present from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. with a rosary at 7:30 p.m.
