THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, June 1, 2006.

Ella Caroline Essex, 89, died Tuesday, May 30, at Carlisle Care Center in Carlisle. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Friday, June 2, at Westover Funeral Home. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery.

Ella was born Jan. 12, 1917, in Kelly, the daughter of William and Thea (Egemo) Peterson. She grew up in Kelly and graduated from Kelly High School. In 1938, she married John William Essex. During World War II, she worked at the Munitions Plant in Ankeny and later worked as a sales clerk at Ardans in Des Moines.

She is survived by two daughters, Judy (Brian) Burgus and Marilyn (Dallas) Dickson, both of Des Moines; one son, John (Kathy) Essex of Des Moines; two brothers, Paul Peterson of Johnston and Jerry (Muriel) Peterson of Ames; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Leonard and Billy; four sisters, Edith, Geverna, Thelma and Esther; and her infant daughter, Janet.

Visitation, with the family present will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Westover. Memorial contributions may be made to Carlisle Care Center or Hospice of Central Iowa.
