Mary Tyler was born in Dymock, Gloucestershire, England, October 4, 1827. She was united by the holy bonds of matrimony to Mr. Martin O'Donnell on March 3rd, 1853. Mr. and Mrs. O'Donnell made their home at Dymock until 1861 when they with their three children sailed for America. On arriving they came directly to Mechanicsville, Iowa. While in Mechanicsville they were bereft of one little daughter. Early in 1865 they started for San Francisco, California going by way of New York sailing from there to the Isthmus of Panama, which they crossed by train then finished the journey by water. They remained in California three years. While there another little daughter was welcomed into the home. They returned to Iowa the enxt fall after the "golden spike" was driven on July 4th which made connection by rail between New York and San Francisco possible. This time they located in New Albany Twp, Story County, Iowa, which has since been their home. Several months after returning to Iowa another son arrived to gladden their hearts.
