Aviah K. Cole (formerly Kristen Naylor), age 54, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away after a long illness Wednesday, May 10, at St. Lukes South Hospital.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 14, at Congregation Beth Torah, 6100 W. 127th Street, Overland Park, Kan. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at Mount Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Mo., 64131. Memorial contributions may be made to KSDS (Kansas Specialty Dog Services, 124 W. Seventh St., Washington, Kan., 66968.

Aviah was born November 23, 1951, in Bertha, Minn. She graduated from the University of North Dakota with a bachelors degree in medical technology. Plans to enter medical school were cut short by medical problems. She was married on Nov. 26, 1988, to Craig Cole in Fargo, North Dakota. They resided in Topeka, Kan., and Cedar Rapids before settling in Overland Park, Kan. Aviah was involved in disability rights issues, was an active member in her congregation and thoroughly enjoyed traveling with her husband including on trips to Paris, Hawaii and many other locations. Aviah also was a passionate lover of animals and was involved with the Kansas Specialty Dog Society, having a service dog of her own named Jay.

She is survived by Craig Cole, her husband of 17 years; mother Arliss Naylor and sister Sheila Atwater of Ferndale, Washington; nieces Cheryl Miller and Hannah Cole; nephew Jon Cole; great niece Sylvia Jean Miller; brother and sister-in-law David and Ruth Cole; and father and mother-in-law Orville and Frances Cole. Arrangements are being handled by Mount Moriah and Freeman Chapel, (816) 942-2004.
