THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, April 28, 2006.
Nancy L. (Claussen) Clark, 69, of Wenatchee, Wash., died Tuesday, April 25, at home, surrounded by family after her battle with cancer. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 29, at Grace Lutheran Church, 1408 Washington St, Wenatchee, Wash.
In Iowa, friends of Nancy and Ray Clark are invited to gather at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 30, at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 209 Colorado Ave., Ames, to celebrate Nancy's life through the fellowship of sharing memories, music and scripture.
Nancy was born April 2, 1937, in Douglas, Ariz., to Hans and Melba Claussen. The family moved to the Winlock, Wash., area and she graduated from Winlock High School in 1955.
She married Ray (Raymond) Clark Sept. 11, 1955. After Ray graduated from Washington State University, they moved to Prosser/Grandview, Wash., in 1961. In 1965, they moved to Ames. While being the mother of four active children, she returned to school and graduated from Iowa State University in 1972 earning a bachelor's degree in English education. She was a member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church and was employed by the ISU College of Veterinary Medicine and Wandling Engineering. She and Ray took in two foster children during their years there. They moved to Pullman, Wash., in 1990 where she was involved with CASA, a children's court advocates group. They moved to the Wenatchee Valley to retire in 1998, where she was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed hosting many members of the symphonies and choirs that came to perform in the valley. She loved to spend time in her colorful flower garden with all the birds, friends and family that congregated there. Last fall, her garden was filled with dozens of people who came to celebrate Ray and Nancy's 50th wedding anniversary. It was a joyous time of celebrating their life together.
She is survived by her husband, Ray of Wenatchee; four children, James P. (Jim) of Vancouver, Wash., Michael of Cheyenne, Wyo., Daniel of Peshastin, Wash., and Rebecca of Portland, Ore.; her siblings Guy Richard (Rick) Claussen of Longview, Wash., Kerry Nicholas (Nick) Claussen of Pendleton, Ore., and Lynn Tangvald of Aberdeen, Wash.; grandsons Nathaniel of Peshastin, Wash., David of Offutt AFB, Omaha, Neb., Ryan of Colorado Springs, Colo., Nicholas of Cheyenne, Wyo., Dustyn of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Patrick of Vancouver, Wash.; and many other family members and friends who will miss her greatly.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice, in care of Central Washington Hospital, 903 Red Apple Road, Wenatchee, Wash., 98801; CASA, PO Box 2027, Wenatchee, Wash., 98807; or the American Cancer Society.
