THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, April 20, 2006.

Evelyn Maxine (Lemons) Eggland, 88, formerly of Nevada, entered heaven on Monday, April 17, at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 21, at Salem Lutheran Church in Roland with Pastor Joelle Hanson officiating. Burial will be in Roland Cemetery.

Maxine was born on Feb. 10, 1918, in Marion Township of Mercer County, Lineville, Mo., to Jerry M. and Ada Blanche (Hartley) Lemons. She was a 1937 graduate of Lineville Community Schools. She married Ernest B. Eggland May 8, 1940, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She assisted her husband, Ernest, a farmer, with the farming operation on the family farm 2 3/4 miles southeast of Roland. After his sudden death, she maintained the farm operation and also was employed at the Iowa State Memorial Union from 1969-86. Following declining health in 1998, she lived in the Des Moines and Ankeny areas where she was close to her daughters, Sandra and Kathryn.

She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Roland since 1940, the women's Ladies Aide and church circle. She enjoyed reading, sewing, needlecraft projects, quilting, gardening, cooking and attending children/grandchildren sport activities. She loved being outdoors and enjoyed life to the fullest.

She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Kay (Maurice) Hansen of Johnston and Kathryn Irene (Larry) Purscell of Nevada; one son, Keith Bruce (Garlyn Bethke) Eggland of Peoria, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Janelle (Rick) Strand of Laguna Niguel, Calif., Kristi (Dave) Walvoord of Saugus, Calif., Bradley (Molly) Purscell of Hinton, Kari (Ryan) Kieborz of Peoria, Ariz., and Stacy Eggland of Glendale, Ariz.; three great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Madelyn Purscell of Hinton and Savanna Kieborz of Peoria, Ariz.; one brother, Everett Wayne Lemons of Bettendorf; and three sisters, Elaine Dale Vinzant of Nevada, Enid Gwendlyn Moss of Sedalia, Mo., and Ethel Norma (Lynn) Harris of Nevada.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest, on July 3, 1969; two infant sisters; and five brothers, Elvin Harold, Ernal William, Edwin Ray, Ervin Harvey and Earl Duane Lemons.

Visitation will be today with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.
A memorial fund has been established for Salem Lutheran Church in Roland.
