THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, April 20, 2006.
Florence Finch, 94, of Kelley, died Wednesday, April 19, at Madrid Home in Madrid. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at the Madrid Home Chapel. Burial will be in Kelley Community Cemetery.
Florence (Phillips) Finch was born March 8, 1912, in Sheldahl to Charles and Fae (Harden) Phillips. She grew up in the Sheldahl community, where she attended the public school and the Methodist Church. She married Fred Finch of Kelley Jan. 20, 1932. In the early years of their marriage, they resided and farmed at various locations in the Kelley area.
In 1940, they and their young family moved to Kelley where Fred began operating his father's farm, located on the west edge of Kelley. After the death of his father, Calvin B. Finch, they bought this home farm where they lived until Fred died in 1972. In the mid 1980s, she moved back to a home in Kelley that she and Fred had restored in 1948. She lived there until moving to Madrid Home in January.
She was a member of Kelley Congregational Church and was active in Ladies Aide. She was a member of the Quilters group who created many lovely quilts that were sold to benefit the church. She also treasured the friendships and the monthly activities of the Tuesday Club in Kelley in which she held a long standing membership.
She is survived by two sons, Duane R. Finch (Barbara) of Loveland, Ohio, and Ronald D. Finch (Jean) of Kelley; one daughter, Betty Krane of Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Lillian Samson of Ames.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Fred; one son-in-law, Scott A. Krane; and four brothers, Claude, Harold, Donald and Herbert Phillips.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Madrid Home Chapel. Memorials may be made to Kelley Community Cemetery.
