Aug. 27, 1913-April 14, 2006
Carita Nettie McCullough, 92, of Burlington, died Friday, April 14, at New London Nursing and Rehab Center. A memorial service will be at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, at First United Methodist Church in Burlington with the Rev. Dennis Tevis officiating. Private graveside inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Born Aug. 27, 1913, in Story City, she was the daughter of Michael Frederick and Mary Emma Parsons Knuths. She married Arthur E. McCullough Aug. 23, 1936, in Madison, Wis.

Carita was a homemaker. She liked to read and do crossword puzzles. She loved flowers, watching birds and was a volunteer in the gift shop at Burlington Medical Center. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Burlington, where she was a member of Ruth Circle and Caring Friends. She also taught first-grade Sunday school at Trinity Methodist Church in Keokuk.

She is survived by her husband, Arthur E. McCullough of Burlington; two sons, John (Karen) McCullough of Cave Junction, Ore., and Mike (Becky) McCullough of Burlington; three daughters, Carita "Cherry" Dyas of Davenport, Barb (Alvin) Breuer of Danville and Mary (Don) Taeger of West Burlington; 14 grandchildren, Mike, Kevin and Christine McCullough, Gwendolyn Schaad, Nick, Andy, Meredith and Kate Breuer, Lori Cameron, Diana Detl, Lisa Babcook, Greg Cameron, Heather Sanders and Nate McCullough; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Michael Knuths of Dallas; five sisters, Anne Buck of Ames, Winifred Butson of Wells, Minn., Toni Smith of Heron Point, N.C., Darlene Walton of Cedar Falls and Ruthie Paddock of Pellston, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren, Susie and Danny; three brothers, Keith, Carroll and Robert; and four sisters, Claire, Cleo, Tami and Connie.

Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, in Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church. According to her wishes, Mrs. McCullough has been cremated.

A memorial has been established for First United Methodist Church.
