THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, April 14, 2006.

Daniel Dan H. Harker, 53, of Cambridge, died Wednesday, April 12, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Dan was born April 16, 1952, in Des Moines, the son of John and Betty (Offerman) Harker. He was united in marriage to Brenda Nerness on August 11, 1973 in Maxwell. Brenda preceded Dan in death on July 19, 2004. Dan graduated from Ballard High School in 1970 and attended Northwest Missouri State University for two years. He then served in the Army. He returned to Iowa and worked in the computer department at Des Moines General Hospital. Dan worked at RH Donnelly Marketing in Ames for 30 years in computer operations and also farmed near Cambridge all his life. He was a member of the Cambridge United Methodist Church and the Iowa Outdoor Group. Dan enjoyed fishing, hunting and the outdoor life. Dan is survived by a son, Justin Harker of Cambridge; a daughter and son-in-law, Erin and Mike Halverson of Ankeny; two grandchildren, Sydney and Delaney; his father and mother, John and Betty Jo Harker of Ames; a brother, John Harker Jr. of Ames; a sister, Victoria Harker of Jefferson. His wife, Brenda, preceded Dan in death. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today at the Cambridge United Methodist Church with Rev. Curtis DeVance officiating. Burial, with Military Honors, will be in the Center Grove Cemetery near Cambridge. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Memorials may be made to the Cambridge United Methodist Church. The Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell is handling arrangements.
