Born Delmar Ray Bogenrief on December 13th, 1925, in Avoca, Nebraska, he was the son of Lena and Oliver Bogenrief. On November 6th, 1947, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Lee Cutler. He was employed at Montgomery Ward as service manager and Lennox Industries as an electrician in the maintenance department. He also wired area homes and businesses on the side.
Delmar had a quiet nature. He steadily provided for his family until his health problems escalated and he took early retirement. Dad served in the United States Navy during WWII as a radio operator. There he found a love of talking with others all over the world and sat up many nights talking on his CB radio. He continued to talk about this his whole life.
He had been on avid outdoorsman, telling stories of hunting deer and being the best shot in the group. He hunted pheasants and fished during many weekends with his brother Harvey and all the boys.
Early in the children’s lives they went on camping trips and had fish fry barbeques. Delmar was a great cook especially his homemade French-fries. After retirement he enjoyed playing golf until his stroke ten years ago. He had a great big smile and funny sense of humor.
He greatly missed his wife Bonnie, who had been his caregiver the better part of 30 years. We are confident he has rejoined her and is truly happy again. He has also rejoined his parents and grandson, Kirk.
Left to mourn his loss are his children; Sandra Rae (Kent)Thiesen of Spencer, Iowa, Carol Linn (Peter) Henschke of Annapolis, Maryland, Donald Wayne (Kayla) Bogenrief of Albion, Cheryl Lee (Mark) Hayes of Rhodes, and Barbara Ellen (Tim) Jennings of Marshalltown, , seven grandchildren; Jeremy and Andrew Thiesen, Colleen, Jessica and Emily Hayes and Austin and Ashley Jennings, three great-grandchildren; Logan and Ellie Thiesen and Skyler Ivey, his brother Harvey (Phyllis) Bogenrief of Ames, his sister-in-law Gladys Larson of Hot Springs, Arkansas, nieces, nephews, a host of friends as well as two grand dogs Wilma and Freckles and a bunch of favorite farm animals,
