THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, March 29, 2006.

Lewis A. Beane, 83, of Ames and formerly of Oskaloosa, died Monday, March 27, at home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 31, at St. Paul Congregational United Church of Christ in Oskaloosa. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery.

Lewis graduated from Redfield High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force. He served in the Air Force 8th Division in Europe. He married Maxine Thompson in Atchison, Kan. She died July 11, 1998. He worked as a hog buyer for Armour & Company from 1948 until he retired in 1984. The Beanes lived in several towns in Iowa, including Oskaloosa, Belle Plaine and Des Moines. He lived in Ames the past five years.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed the out of doors and working in his yard and garden; playing cards, watching his sons' athletic events and watching sports on television, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W.

His family includes two sons and their wives, Roger and Andrea Beane of Oelwein and Ken and Jan Beane of Indianola; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; one great-great granddaughter; companion and friend, Hollys Hines Heer of Ames; one sister and her husband, Jean and Charles Stodden of Des Moines; and one brother and his wife, Harvey and Nuala Beane of Tillamook, Ore.

Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Thursday, March 30, at Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, and the family will be present to greet friends and relatives from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Friday at the church.
