BATES, ALBERT (1855-1913)

THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, March 27, 1913, page 1, column 3. “OBITUARY – Albert Bates was born in Jasper County, Iowa, August 21, 1855 and died at Nickolas Senn hhospital, Omaha, Nebraska, March 17, 1913, aged fifty-seven years, six months and twenty-five days. He was married to Sarah Ann Holmes March 25, 1889, who died May 26, 1892. Two daughters were born who died when but a few months old. A short service was held by the M. E. minister of the Auburn church at the Howe cemetery, where he was laid to rest, according to the special request of deaceased. Among those who were present were the following from Collins, Iowa: Sisters of the deceased, Mrs. A. W. Woten and Mrs. D. V. Smith; brothers of the deceased, Walter Bates, Grant Bates and Sherm Bates; A. W. Woten, of Humboldt, Nebraska. Those not able to be present were deceased’s venerable mother, his sister, Mrs. William Holmes, borth of Collins; brothers, Alva and John Bates, of Roosevelt, Okla.; and his sister, Mrs. O. E. Bedell, of Gitner, Neb. Those accompanying the body to the final resting place were Grant, Sherm and Walter Bates and Charles Reagen. Deceased was dearly loved by his sorrowing mother, brothers, sisters and other relatives, who have the sincere sympathy of our people, many of whom knew him, he having lived for many years in this neighborhood, where he was greatly esteemed. – COLLINS GAZETTE.”
