MCQUILLEN, ELLA EDITH MCCOWIN (MRS. GEORGE MCQUILLEN) (1863-1913)

THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, March 20, 1913, page 1, column 1. “OBITUARY – Mrs. E. E. McQuillen, wife of Geor. McQuillen, died Tuesday, March 11th, at her home, 1337 East Thirteenth street, Des Moines, after a lingering illness, having been a sufferer for the past five years from Bright’s disease and dropsy. Ella Edith, daughter of the late S. J. McCowin, was born February 8, 1863 in Iowa Center, and there grew to womanhood; she was married January 1, 1880, to George McQuillen, and during the early years of their married life, the family made their home in Maxwell, later moving elsewhere, and for the past ten years, have been residents of Des Moines. Mrs. McQuillen was the mother of five children, two of whom died in infancy; the remaining three, a son Fred, and two daughters, Mabel and Mrs. W. W. Brady, with the husband and father survive her. Besides the inmmediate family, she leaves one brother, E. H. McCowin of Syracuse, Kansas and two grandchildren. The remains were brought to Maxwell on Thursday morning and conveyed to Iowa Center where a short service was held at the church, conducted by Rev. Skogsberg, after which the body was laid to rest in the Iowa Center cemetery. Accompanying the body from Des Moines were the members of the family, Mrs. Nettie Johnson, Miss Josie McCowin and Everett Oldfield.”
