April 2, 1932-March 22, 2006

Norman Selwyn Dale, 73, Ames, died Wednesday, March 22, of a massive heart attack at his home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 27, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 37.

Norman was born April 2, 1932, in Nevada, the son of Selwyn and June (Veitch) Dale. He graduated from Ames High School in 1950 and from Iowa State in 1959. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-55.

He married Patricia O'Brien March 14, 1954, in Ames. She preceded him in death Nov, 23, 1977. He married Marilyn Reinhart Feb, 14, 1981. He was a member of American Legion Post 37, Arcadia Lodge 249 and the Iowa High School Coaches Association.

He had a longtime teaching and coaching career at Gilbert, Rockwell-Swaledale and Ballard. In his retirement, he enjoyed golfing and playing cribbage with his longtime friends and spending time with family.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Dale of Ames; and his children, daughter, Cheryl (Joel) Zeiser of Bettendorf and their children, Zach and Julie; daughter, Terri (Jesse) Turpen of Ankeny and their children, Tricia (Jarrod) Maston and Matthew Turpen; son, Mark (Teresa) Dale of Davenport and their children, Kelsey, Heather, B.J., Kristina, Lori and Jacob; three step-daughters, Lori (Tom) Todd of Breckenridge, Colo., and their children, Nathan and Tricia; Linda Locker and Mike Wallace of Ankeny; Cindy (Chris) Wilkening of Slater and their children, Katie and Jacob; and a great-granddaughter, Annabelle Turpen.

He was preceded in death by wife; his parents S.E. (Solly) and June Dale; and one brother, Bob Dale.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 26, at Stevens Memorial Chapel.
