Helen Skartvedt, 90, died Sunday, March 19. Funeral services were this morning at Stavanger Lutheran Church in Garden City.

Helen Gene Skartvedt was born Jan. 10, 1916, the eldest child of Harold and Gertie (Lunning) Lindebak in Ellsworth. She attended school in Ellsworth and Radcliffe. She graduated valedictorian from Radcliffe High School in 1933. She then attended Waldorf College and sang in the Waldorf Choir. She taught school before she married.

She married Arnold Skartvedt May 27, 1944, and together they raised their family of five sons and one daughter. She was active in Stavanger Lutheran Church as a teacher and in the Dorcas Society. Her greatest wish was that everyone would know her Lord and Savior.

She is survived by her husband, Arnold; her children David Skartvedt and wife Mary of Riverside, Calif., Wendell Frette and wife Lois of Jewell, Ivan Skartvedt and wife Barbara of Conrad, Lyle Skartvedt and wife Pam of Garden City, and Jean Engelson and husband Larry of Garden City; 24 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; and two sisters Florence Topp of Radcliffe and Donna Liming and husband Lenard of Ames.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Charles and Glenn; one brother, Edward Lindebak; and two sisters Vivian and Ursula Maakestad.

May we give thanks to God for the life and memory of Helen G. Skartvedt.
