THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, March 7, 2006.

Joel S. Anderson, 84, of Nevada, died on Sunday, March 5, at Story County Long Term Care in Nevada. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 9 at Memorial Lutheran Church with pastors Myron D. Herzberg and David R. Burling officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.
Joel was born on Sept. 18, 1921, in Roland to Ove O. and Anna (Ristesund) Anderson. He was a 1939 graduate of Roland Consolidated School. He served in the U.S. Army in North Africa and Italy during World War II. He continued his education at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyo. He graduated from Iowa State University in Ames with a degree in animal science. He married Janet Mathison Aug. 5, 1958, in Des Moines. He was a farmer and farm manager. He was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada and the American Legion. He was known for his great sense of humor and his great smile. He enjoyed hunting and loved watching sports.

He is survived by his wife Janet of Nevada; one daughter, Ann Anderson of Fort Collins, Colo.; one brother, Ralph Anderson of Radcliffe; and two sisters, Ethel Anderson of Webster City and Patricia Corpening of Saratoga, Wyo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, and six sisters.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
Memorial contributions may be directed in Mr. Anderson's name to Memorial Lutheran Church or Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
