W. A. Parker Obituary
William Albert Parker was born in Collins township, Story County, Iowa, January 14t, 1852, and died in Collins, Iowa, March 17th, 1914, being 62 years, 2 months and 3 days old. His father and mother, William and Nancy Parker, came to Story County, in the spring of 1849, and to them were born the first white child that was born in Story county the brother just 2 years older than this our deceased friend. Mr. Parker was one of a family of 7 children, 3 girls and 4 boys; one sister died in infancy, all the others grew to maturity. Those who survive are one brother, Danial S. Parker, of Cody, Wyo., and two sisters, Mrs. Sara A. Denniston of Collins, and Mrs. Martha J. Elliott of Independence, Kans.
Mr. Parker was married to Miss Sadie McQuiston in March 1875. To them were born two children, one daughter who died in infancy and one son Odie Wesley Parker who lives at Garner, Hancock County, who with his wife Mrs. Manda May and daughter Leota Fern, were called to father's bedside only to see him pass away.
Mr. Parker being born and reared 3 or 4 miles southeast of and living nearly all his life near Collins, Iowa, is widely known and leaves a great number of acquaintances and friends, who will miss his comradeship. His illness was of short duration; he was on the streets last Friday. While ailing for some time, he had the doctor for the first time Saturday evening. The great harvester put in his sickle about 11 a.m. Tuesday, and the place which knew Mr. Parker shall know him no more on the earth. He leaves to mourn his going, and to cherish in memory their father and brother, one son and daughter-in-law, one grandchild, one brother and two sisters, with numerous friends and other relatives. We their friends, certainly and sicerely extend to the bereaved our sympathy in this ordeal of sorrow.
The above obituary was read at the funeral.
The funeral was held in the M.P.church last Thursday afternoon, Rev. C. S. Hanson preaching an eloquent and comforting discourse. The floral designs were beautiful and the songs effectively rendered by the church choir, were new and very appropriate. The church was filled with old neighbors and friends of the departed.
The pall bearers were Jno. Halterman, Wm King, L. D. Shearer, A. W. Woten, Henry Todhunter and Jno. McQuiston. The interment was at the Evergreen Cemetery, by the side of deceased wife.
